Video of Flag Donation 15th September 2015

On Tuesday 15th September Richard Pickles of Donald K. Pickles & Son, Funeral Directors & Monumental Masons kindly donated a flag of the Otley Crest to the town.  The flag will be flown on important occasions for the town and is currently raised for one of the town’s most important cultural events – the Otley Folk Festival – which brings people in from far and wide and is a real boost to trade and tourism in the town.  At the presentation ceremony Cllr Ray Georgeson thanked Mr Pickles for his generous gift and said

‘the flag is an important symbol and whenever the flag flies I hope that townsfolk will enjoy a boost to their civic pride and feel a sense of belonging that I know we all share – but sometimes the use of a symbol can be very powerful in reinforcing that sense of belonging and reminding us of the pride we have in the place we live, work and play – here in Otley.’
