Otley is at the foot of the Dales. An historic town that gave the modern printing press to the world!
The Town Museum has a sample of the world famous Wharfedale Printing Machine and also has a host of other artifacts from the town; a friendly and knowledgeable staff are always willing to assist visitors in research or areas of special interest.
Home of the great world renowned cabinet maker Thomas Chippendale. His statue has featured in a TV documentary as one of the rare portraits of this great artist.
Lying in a beautiful bowl below the Chevin and at the side of the River Wharfe, this delightful town has been a centre for TV and film industry for many years. As you wonder through the charming mill town streets and gills don’t be surprised if you recognize scenes from Emmerdale, Heartbeat and The Chase and if you are lucky you may even see them filming! On Saturdays you are very likely to hear, the distinctive bell of our Bellman who has walked our streets for many a year calling out current Town events and news.
A thriving town, Otley is a local centre for walking, cycling, festivals, art events, Morris dancing and of course not to forget the real ale and good food!
