Quality Status - it's official!

As from 11th February 2009 Otley has a Quality Town Council.

This national status is recognition that the Town Council has achieved a formal standard in some 25 categories ranging from democratic accountability to community communication.  Across England Town and Parish Council’s represent the grass route democratic government.  This national standard is the official method of determining which of those thousands of councils have demonstrated that they operate within an agreed level of quality.

The Town Mayor Cllr Jim Spencer has expressed his pleasure at the award as it is a major achievement for the Council and its Officers.  Only by working together could this status have been achieved and the Mayor was pleased to recognise the effect of cooperation and hard work which has led to this accreditation to the Town.

In negotiating with Leeds City Council and other regional and national bodies the Town Council now has irrefutable proof of the quality of its work and its legitimacy in representing the Town.
